Troubleshooting

Fixes for the most common Onward issues — missing tasks, calendar events not appearing, sign-in trouble, wrong dates, and settings that won't save.

Most Onward issues come down to a handful of causes. Work through the relevant section below; if none of it helps, contact support with the details listed at the bottom.

My tasks disappeared

Almost always the adaptive interface rather than data loss.

  1. Check the capacity control in the header. Rest shows one task at a time; Ready shows five. Everything else is waiting in the backlog.
  2. Switch to Flow or Off to see the full list.
  3. Still missing? Clear any applied saved view, quick chips, and filters — a filter left on from yesterday looks identical to missing data.
  4. Confirm you're in the right workspace — the switcher is in the sidebar, and each workspace has its own tasks.
  5. Search for the task by name with ⌘K. Search covers everything you have access to, including backlogged tasks.

Columns are missing from the task list

Either Rest mode (which hides most columns) or your own column settings. Switch capacity to Ready or Off, then open Columns. Task cannot be hidden. Widths and table style are per device. See Saved views, filters, and columns.

To change many tasks at once, select two or more on desktop. See Bulk edit tasks. The menu is not on mobile web.

Google Calendar events aren't showing

  1. Confirm Google is connected under Settings → Integrations.
  2. Confirm the specific calendar is toggled on — connecting your account doesn't automatically show every calendar.
  3. Check the date range you're viewing.
  4. Reconnect from Settings → Integrations if you've recently changed your Google password or revoked access.

Google events you enabled are read into Onward. An Onward focus block or break shows up in Google only if Also add to Google Calendar was checked when you created it. See Calendar.

Dates are off by a day

Check Timezone in Settings → Profile. It sets where the day boundary falls for due dates, Plan My Day, routines, and weekly snapshot calculations. A timezone left at the default after you moved is the usual cause.

I can't sign in

  • Use the same method you signed up with. If you created your account with Google, "forgot password" won't help — sign in with Google.
  • Add a password under Settings → Login info so you have a fallback.
  • Check for a typo in the email address, including a different domain than you expect.
  • If you were invited to a workspace, make sure you're signing in with the invited email address.

See Account, login, and appearance.

My notification settings didn't save

The notifications page requires pressing Save Changes. Also note the team collaboration toggles are only editable when both In-app notifications and Email notifications are on. See Notifications.

I'm not getting any email from Onward

  1. Check Settings → Notifications — both Email notifications and the specific event type need to be on.
  2. Check Settings → Weekly snapshot separately; it's an independent toggle.
  3. Look in spam, and add Onward to your safe senders.
  4. Use Send me a sample on the weekly snapshot page to test delivery directly.

Team Health isn't in my sidebar

Team Health requires a workspace with more than one active member. In a solo workspace it's hidden by design. See Team Health and Team Boosts.

Wellness charts are empty

Most cards need roughly one to two weeks of check-ins before they show trends, and Onward displays "Charts need a few more check-ins" until then. The morning and shutdown routines are the easiest way to build that history.

A page looks broken or stale

  1. Hard refresh the page.
  2. Try a private or incognito window, which rules out an extension.
  3. Try a different browser.

If the problem only happens in one browser with extensions enabled, an ad blocker or privacy extension is the likely cause.

Common questions

Did Onward delete my tasks?

Very unlikely. Capacity mode, an active filter, or the wrong workspace account for nearly every report of missing tasks. Search with ⌘K — if the task appears there, it exists and is simply being filtered out of the list view.

Why isn't my focus block in Google Calendar?

It is copied only if Also add to Google Calendar was checked when you created it. The box is off by default. Task due dates are not copied. See Calendar.

Why can't I edit my notification toggles?

They require both master switches — In-app notifications and Email notifications — to be on.

How do I know which sign-in method I used?

Try Google first if that's how you usually sign in elsewhere. Settings → Login info shows your active sign-in methods once you're in.

What should I include when I contact support?

Your account email, what you expected versus what happened, the page or URL, roughly when it happened, and a screenshot. It typically turns three emails into one.
