Onward’s Calendar page combines your schedule in Onward with Google Calendar events you choose to show. Connect Google from Integrations to get started.
This is the sidebar Calendar, the shape of your day. The Calendar toggle on My Tasks is a different screen: due dates only. See Tasks and completion.
Turning Calendar on
- Settings → Integrations → enable Show Calendar in navigation.
- Connect Google and pick which accounts/calendars to display.
If Calendar is missing from the sidebar, the feature toggle is off or Google is not connected yet.
Working on the page
Week and Day switch the grid. Previous, Today, and Next move the range. Manage Calendars chooses which Google calendars are visible.
Add on an empty time slot opens:
| Choice | What it creates |
|---|---|
| Calendar event | An Onward event. The dialog is Add event. Edit later with Edit event and Save changes |
| Schedule focus | A focus block. See Focus mode |
| Schedule a break | A break. Confirm with Schedule break |
Open a Google invite you were sent and answer Going? with Yes, Maybe, or No.
What you see on the Calendar page
- Google events from calendars you enabled (meetings, blocks, etc.).
- Onward-native scheduling such as focus sessions, breaks, and routine-related blocks you create from Calendar workflows.
Layout is time-based (day/week-style navigation in the app). Google recurring events follow Google’s rules; Onward shows them according to your sync settings.
What syncs from Google (read-in)
- Events on calendars you explicitly enable per Google account.
- Invite/RSVP state where Google provides it (you may respond from Onward when supported).
Google is the source of truth for those external events. Editing in Onward may be limited or unavailable depending on the event type and your Google permissions.
What does not sync unless you ask
Google events you enable are read into Onward. Task due dates are not copied onto Google.
Focus blocks, breaks, and Onward events stay in Onward by default. When you create one, Also add to Google Calendar is optional and off until you turn it on. The note under it: your schedule lives in Onward either way. The checkbox appears when you have a Google calendar Onward can write to.
Routines are not calendar events. They stay in Onward.
Tasks vs Calendar
- Tasks → Calendar view plots due dates and recurring occurrences.
- Calendar page is the combined timeline (Google + Onward scheduling).
Use whichever view matches the question: “when is this due?” (tasks) vs “what does my day look like?” (Calendar).
Troubleshooting
- Re connect Google if calendar lists fail after an upgrade.
- Confirm the calendar checkbox is enabled for each sub-calendar you expect to see.

Common questions
Does Onward sync two ways with Google Calendar?
Google events you enable are read in. Onward does not copy your task list to Google.
When you create an Onward event, focus block, or break, Also add to Google Calendar can mirror that one item. Leave it off and it stays in Onward.
Why isn't my focus block showing in Google Calendar?
It only appears in Google if you turned on Also add to Google Calendar when you scheduled it. Otherwise it lives on the Onward calendar only.
Some of my Google calendars aren't showing.
Connecting your Google account doesn't enable every calendar automatically. Enable each sub-calendar you want visible under Settings → Integrations.
Can I schedule focus time from the calendar?
Yes. Schedule focus blocks time with a project, optional tasks, and an interval, and can open the focus flow automatically at the start time. See Focus mode.
Why is Calendar missing from my sidebar?
Either the Calendar feature toggle is off for your workspace, or Google isn't connected yet. Both are under Settings → Integrations.
Do task due dates appear on my Google Calendar?
No. Due dates stay on tasks. Use the task calendar on My Tasks for "when is this due?", and this page for "what does my day look like?"
