Task details

The task drawer — subtasks, description, notes, voice, links, attachments, and the details fields.

Task details is the drawer that slides in from the right. It is where a task holds everything that does not fit in a table cell: the description, subtasks, files, and the schedule.

Open it from the list by clicking the title once (pause, don't double-click), or by Task details on the row. On a phone the same drawer opens from the list row.

Back returns from a subtask to its parent. × closes the drawer. On desktop, drag the edge to resize it. That width stays on this device.

Section headers have Move up and Move down. The order you choose is remembered.

Sections

Section What you do
Subtasks Break the task into steps
Description The longer write-up. Rich text, saved when you leave the field
Notes Short note chips tied to this task
Voice note One audio note on the task itself
Links URLs. Add, edit, or remove
Attachments Files. Upload, drop, preview, download, or delete
Details Status, people, project, dates, priority, visibility, tags
Recurring The repeat schedule. See Recurring tasks

Discussion with teammates lives in comments, opened from the speech-bubble control in the drawer header. That is separate from Notes and from the Voice note.

Subtasks

  1. Type a subtask and add it. You can set a due date and a repeat on the new row before you add it.
  2. Check a subtask to complete it. Double-click its title to rename it.
  3. Next step only hides later subtasks on the parent row so the list shows the next incomplete step.
  4. Open a subtask's own details or comments from its row.
  5. Make top-level task detaches a subtask from its parent. A subtask also shows Make top-level task in a banner at the top of its drawer.

When every subtask is complete, Onward may ask whether to complete the parent. Confirm or dismiss. Completing the parent is your choice.

Delete task in the drawer asks you to confirm. If the task has subtasks, the confirmation says so.

The same fields can be edited in the list. The drawer is the place for the long form, the files, and the schedule. Changing many tasks at once is bulk edit, which does not open this drawer — selecting two or more tasks closes it.

Common questions

Why did the drawer close?

Selecting a second task for bulk edit closes open drawers so the floating menu can take over.

Where are comments?

The comments control in the drawer header, or Comments on the row. See Task comments.

Can I reorder the sections?

Yes. Move up and Move down on a section header. The order sticks on this device.

Does the voice note go to my teammates?

The Voice note is audio on the task. A voice comment in the thread is a different control, inside comments.
